MARBLE SLAB CREAMERY OWNER REFLECTS AFTER 10 YEARS IN AIKEN

More than 15 years ago, Barbara Spivey and her husband, Dewey, were living in Peachtree City, Georgia, enjoying ice cream at a new Marble Slab Creamery at an outdoor shopping center almost every weekend. Spivey’s favorite thing to eat while out with her husband was a combination of coffee and cheesecake mixed together with cherries and pecans and, years later, the now Marble Slab franchisee said it still is – that’s when she’s not enjoying plain strawberry. Spivey and her husband moved to Aiken in 2002 after he took a new job in the area and decided to open up the ice cream store at the Shoppes at Whiskey in 2005. Barbara Spivey, then in her 50s, needed something to do after leaving her job as a director of imports for a company back home.

TWO NATIONAL DESSERT CHAINS UNITE FOR NEW STORES IN MEMPHIS

Two dessert chains with a global presence will combine under one roof in Memphis. A co-branded concept between Great American Cookies and Marble Slab Creamery is headed to the Bluff City thanks to a new franchisee. Carl Greenway purchased franchise rights for West Tennessee and North Mississippi, and now he plans to open two to three of these combo locations in the next 18 months. “I think it is a fantastic thing,” Greenway said. “The quality of the product is really good, and it is going to be a fun place to work, a place where people can come and have a good time.”

After pricing restructure and improved customer experience, Marble Slab Creamery® experiences two years of significant and sustainable sales growth 

ATLANTA – June 15, 2015 – Marble Slab Creamery® is in a sweet sales spot. After restructuring pricing and improving the customer experience over the course of two years, the brand is experiencing a major turnaround in positive sales boasting a 5.8 percent increase in same store sales, a four percent increase in transactions and a 9.8 percent increase in Average Unit Volumes (AUVs) year to date. The increase in sales can be attributed to the national ice creamery’s unlimited mix-ins pricing which allows customers to add as many mix-ins that will fit into the ordered cup size or cone for a set price, increased messaging regarding its in-store homemade small batch premium ice cream, and emphasizing fresh baked waffle cones at no additional cost. Marble Slab Creamery’s sister concept, MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream & Treatery, is transitioning and most stores have, or are in the process, of converting to the better recognized Marble Slab Creamery brand.

Ending five years of significant sales declines, Marble Slab demonstrated positive results in 2014 with plus 4.39 percent in same store sales and plus 7.8 percent in AUVS. The significant turnaround in sales is a testament to increased customer satisfaction and an overall increased value proposition.
